About the Department:
The Department of Agada Tantra is devoted to the study of Ayurvedic toxicology, encompassing the diagnosis, prevention, and management of poisoning caused by natural, chemical, and artificial agents. It deals with Visha Chikitsa (treatment of poisoning), Jangama Visha (animal poisons), Sthavara Visha (plant poisons), and Garavisha (artificial poisons), along with medico-legal aspects of Ayurveda.
The department also imparts knowledge of forensic medicine, medical jurisprudence, and emergency management in Ayurveda. Students are trained to understand toxicological principles, medico-legal responsibilities, and the role of Ayurveda in managing poisoning, lifestyle hazards, and environmental toxins.

Objectives
1. To train undergraduate students in the principles and practice of Ayurvedic toxicology.
2. To provide knowledge of medico-legal aspects and forensic responsibilities in Ayurveda.
3. To prepare students for emergency management of poisoning cases using Ayurvedic interventions.
4. To encourage research in toxicology, forensic medicine, and medico-legal documentation.
5. To contribute to public health awareness regarding poisoning, environmental hazards, and preventive strategies.

Practical Exposure:
The Clinical Department of Agada Tantra provides specialized OPD and IPD services for patients suffering from poisoning, toxic exposures, and lifestyle-related hazards. It functions as a referral unit for cases requiring Ayurvedic detoxification, emergency management, and medico-legal consultation.
Students gain practical exposure to:
- Diagnosis and management of poisoning cases using Ayurvedic principles.
- Detoxification therapies and antidotal measures described in classical texts.
- Medico-legal documentation and forensic case studies.
- Community outreach programs on awareness of poisoning, substance abuse, and environmental toxins.
This hands-on training ensures that graduates are well-prepared to handle both clinical toxicology and medico-legal responsibilities, strengthening the role of Ayurveda in modern healthcare.
