Kriya Shareera

Department of Kriya Sharira

About the Department:

The Department of Kriya Sharira forms the foundation of Ayurvedic medical education, focusing on the study of the normal functioning of the human body. It integrates classical Ayurvedic concepts of Dosha, Dhatu, Mala, Agni, Prakriti, Koshtha, and Vikriti with modern physiology to provide students a comprehensive understanding of how the body maintains health and responds to disease.

By teaching the mechanisms of life processes, the department enables students to appreciate the functional basis of Ayurveda, which is essential for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Practical demonstrations, laboratory experiments, and clinical correlations ensure that students gain both theoretical knowledge and applied skills.

Vision Statement:

  • To establish the Department of Kriya Sharira as a center of excellence in Ayurvedic physiology.
  • To provide deep insights into the functioning of the human body through both classical and modern perspectives.
  • To make Kriya Sharira the foundation stone for clinical practice in Ayurveda, ensuring global recognition of its principles.

Mission Statement:

  • To impart quality education in Ayurvedic physiology, producing competent physicians and researchers.
  • To enhance students’ confidence in Ayurveda by validating Siddhantas (principles) through evidence-based teaching and research.
  • To integrate Ayurvedic concepts with modern scientific tools for better understanding of health and disease.
  • To create awareness among the public about the richness of Ayurveda through extension activities and student engagement.

Objectives

1. To provide in-depth knowledge of Dosha, Dhatu, Mala, Agni, Prakriti, and Koshtha as the basis of health.
2. To train students in clinical physiology through laboratory experiments, case demonstrations, and practical sessions.
3. To apply the concepts of Sharira Kriya in preventive and curative aspects of Ayurveda.
4. To encourage research orientation among students by exploring classical texts and modern physiology.
5. To prepare graduates who can integrate Ayurvedic physiology into lifestyle management and public health initiatives.

Practical Exposure:

Although primarily a pre-clinical department, Sharira Kriya plays a crucial role in clinical education. It provides the functional basis for understanding pathology and therapeutics, bridging the gap between theory and practice.

The department conducts laboratory sessions on hematology, biochemistry, and physiological assessments, helping students correlate Ayurvedic parameters with modern diagnostic tools. Students gain exposure to clinical examinations, Prakriti analysis, and functional assessments, which prepare them for effective patient care in later clinical postings.

By strengthening the link between Ayurvedic principles and modern physiology, the department ensures that future physicians can apply holistic knowledge in both preventive and curative healthcare.
